Community Connections to Fueling a Spark...

01/17/2014

Support from Wausau and Marathon Retired Educators Associations fuels the spark that keeps "College Thinking" experience going for seventh grade middle school students.

In 2011, Horace Mann Middle School Parent Partner coordinator, Julie Bollmann had a idea to create a "college day" experience for all seventh grade students and was awarded a Reach for the Stars grant that would spark her idea into reality. The goal of the hands on "what it would be like to go to college" - was for students to see for themselves what college was like and inspire them to "think about their futures" as they head into the high school preparation years.

From the very first year it was a success and worth repeating every year since. Garnering broader community support in 2013 from the Wausau and Marathon County Retired Educator Associations, seventh grade students again had the opportunity to "Think College" - and that is the fire! Thank you WREA and MCREA!!
Congratulations! Julie Bollmann and team for providing this outstanding learning opportunity for HMMS seventh grade students.
