About the Founder's Collection
This collection of artwork was created by senior art students from Wausau West High School. In its original form the works were canvas floor cloths ranging in size from three to five square feet. Design development for the floor cloths began with a study of Australian Aboriginal art, an art form rich in symbolism, color, and patterns often used in an autobiographical context.
The students created autobiographical designs, yet the concept was expanded to include the understanding that "no man is an island." Each of us is linked to other individuals while at the same time being a member of a larger community.
To illustrate this, each student created a symbol to be included in their artwork and shared it with two class members. These shared symbols were then incorporated into the work of all three students. To illustrate membership in a larger community, a gold line apprears as a unifying element throughout the entire collection.
Members of The Founders Society have generously gifted $5,000 or more to the Wausau School Foundation. As each individual reaches out in a positive way, that gesture impacts and inspires others. As we come together in support of children and their education, we build community as well as a legacy that will not end.
We believe this work exemplifies the beliefs of the Wausau School Foundation and members of its Founders Society.
